The Association for the Environmental Health of Soils (AEHS) is an organization of 400 professionals representing a variety of disciplines from across the U.S. and abroad including biology, chemistry, geology and hydrogeology, engineering and regulatory science.

Technical Information Exchange:

  • Developed, organized, and conducted 17 national conferences on Petroleum and Hydrocarbon Contaminated Soils in Massachusetts, California, and Texas since 1985.
  • Wrote, edited, and published 18 books on the analysis, assessment, and remediation of petroleum contaminated soils since 1985.
  • Created, produce and distribute Journal of Soil Contamination since 1991.
  • Serve as Associate Editor for Journal of Soil Contamination (1995).
  • Created, produce and distribute Journal of Human & Ecological Risk Assessment since 1994.
  • Created, Soils magazine and serve as Contributor and Chairman of Scientific Advisory Board Soils Magazine since 1990.
  • Conduct Annual U.S. State-by-State survey for soil and water cleanup standards since 1985.
  • Developed and manage current references for contaminated soils database since 1990.
  • Developed, maintain and grow database of environmental professionals interested in soil contamination (100,000 + entries) since 1985.
  • Created and manage the environmental publishing company, Amherst Scientific Publishers (1994).
  • Distributed hypertext version of the Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP) (1995).
  • Serve as Scientific Advisor to Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Science and the Arab School of Science & Technology (1995).

  • International Workshop on Human and Ecological Risk Assessment for Contaminated Sites for Canadian government (1991).
  • Risk Assessment workshops for Louisiana Department of Environmental Protection (1993-94).
  • Introduction to Remedial Technologies for Hydrocarbon Contaminated Soils workshop for Louisiana Department of Environmental Protection (1994).
  • Principles & Practices for Assessment and Remediation of Contaminated Soils, graduate and continuing education course at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst (1993 & 1994).
  • Hydrocarbon Contaminated Soils workshop for Region 6/EPA, private industry and state regulators in New Orleans (1995).
  • Assessment and Remediation of Oil Contaminated Soils in the Middle East, workshop for Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Science and the Arab School of Science & Technology (1995).

Product Development:
  • Created and served as Chairman of Product Advisory Committee for the private sector development of an immunoassay analysis kit for hydrocarbon contaminated soils.
  • Developed searchable computerized database of state soil and groundwater cleanup standards (1995).
