Dr. John B.
Gustafson has a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the
University of Delaware and a B.S. in chemical engineering
from Purdue University. He has five years of experience in
the refining industry prior obtaining his Ph.D. and joining
Shell Development Company in 1991. He is currently a Senior
Research Engineer in the Environmental Directorate at
Shell's Westhollow Technology Center in Houston, Texas. John
recently returned to Westhollow from a one year exchange
scientist assignment with Shell Global Solutions at the
Shell Research and Technology Centre, Thornton, U.K. His
current responsibilities include: application of RBCA to
reduce costs associated with corrective action at
contaminated land sites, technical support for development
and application of Risk-Based Corrective Action (RBCA),
modeling of contaminant transport and fate in support of
Risk-based Corrective Action, and risk-based approaches to
analysis and evaluation of contamination by total petroleum
hydrocarbons. He is an active member of the Total Petroleum
Hydrocarbon Criteria Working Group. John also continues to
actively participate in the national Partnership in RBCA
Implementation (PIRI), as well as PIRI efforts in several
states (Delaware, Ohio, Colorado, California, etc.).
