Presentation Guidelines
FIRST
INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS ON PETROLEUM CONTAMINATED
SOILS, SEDIMENTS AND WATER
August
14-17, 2001 at Imperial College of Science Technology and
Medicine
At the conference we will
provide you with a mounting surface to accommodate poster
dimensions as follows:
Outside dimensions: Height =
8ft 2ins Width = 3ft 3ins.
Inside dimensions (area
available for graphic display): Height = 7ft 8ins Width =
3ft 11/2 in. We will provide the materials to affix your
poster units to the poster presentation surface.
POSTER
COMPONENTS
Title
Banner
should provide the following information:
- Title
of the poster
- Author(s)
- Affiliation(s)
of each author
Poster
Units
are defined here as any piece of paper, graph, photograph,
etc. on the poster surface. Your audience should be able to
see your material from a distance of 4 feet. Minimum size
units should be 8.5 by 11 inches. Larger poster units may be
used, keeping in mind readability and overall composition of
the presentation. We encourage liberal use of large
photographs, figures, diagrams, maps or artwork.
POSTER
CONTENT
In
order to aid the reader, a clear and concise stated
objective section is necessary. This may be followed by an
experimental section. The results should be the major
portion of the poster followed by the conclusions, stated
briefly. DO NOT post your entire paper as it is will be
impossible for even a small group to read extensive text
material.
POSTER
ORGANIZATION
A
poster viewer should be able to extract the essence of your
work by viewing the poster even when you are not present.
This goal may be achieved by the use of one or more of the
following suggestions:
- Organize
the poster units in an orderly fashion for a logical
flow from top to bottom or left to right.
- Number
the units in the order you want them viewed or use
connecting lines to guide the reader through the
material.
- Block
and subtitle the parts of your poster as you would a
paper.
- Lay
out your poster before coming to the conference and have
it critiqued by a colleague.
- Have
handouts, supplementary data or updates available (we
suggest a minimum of 200 copies)
- When
in doubt: Remember that your audience must be able to
easily see your material - especially the title - from
at least 4 feet away.
