This fourth volume of Contaminated Soils contains a collection of thirty-six technical papers presented at the 14th Annual Conference on Contaminated Soils held at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in October 1998. Greater public awareness of issues and private sector involvement in the decision-making process have led to the development of more uniform approaches to dealing with the major forms of chemical and radiological contamination. The papers included in this volume exemplify such approaches as well as address and document advances in our knowledge and understanding of how to evaluate and develop remedial solutions for chemical and radiological contamination in the environment. The collection of papers on proposed regulatory guidance, site and risk assessment tools and remedial alternatives for chemical and radiological contamination presented in this volume provide an insightful perspective on how we are attempting to meet this challenge.
